Peace therapy

We all need to find our customized form of therapy to get through challenging times in life. It's good to have these on a daily basis, but on particularly low days, you need to be intentional and seek these out. As I try, perhaps in vain, to get through one such low day, listing my current favorite forms of therapy to remind myself:

  • Tight hugs and cuddle time with my loves
  • Cooking, roasting, grilling, things that are slow and let me stare somewhere without seeming psychotic
  • Long walks after dusk, with music or a friend in my ear
  • Talking to someone about how I feel, whether it is strong or drowning or both
  • Listening to how someone else's day went
  • Listening to music, and singing along
  • Drawing, scribbling or coloring in my journal
  • Doing something interesting at work
  • Watching comedy with my husband, that makes me laugh out loud
  • Every loved one who says "what can I do to help?"
  • Being a friend to someone else and asking them "what can I do to help?"
  • Meeting an old friend, with a bear hug, and taking off from where we left
  • Recognizing the people who choose to be there, rather than wishing for those who are not
  • Gratitude. Some days, you have to dig deeper.
  • Laughter, sometimes real, sometimes fake
  • Living in the moment and trying to be present
Sometimes, we have to find peace within ourselves or fake it until we make it. Hopefully, tomorrow will be better. Until then..
